OK, I posted the things that I think broadcasters need to at minimum do.  Did I miss somethings?  Do you have a pet peeve that keeps coming up?  Lets get it out!

Tell me the dumbest thing you have heard a broadcaster do lately.  (We probably should let Bob Murphy and Harry Caray rest in peace, but if you want to bring the old guys in, go right ahead.)

My pet peeve among the ones you listed is definitely the overuse of breaking ball.  As a fan I am not familliar with every pitcher I watch on TV so it would be nice to learn a bit more of their repertoire from the broadcasters.

Other than that I really can't stand homer announcers like Michael Kay and Hawk Harrelson.  I know most people like these guys when they are your home team announcer but as a fan who just wants an objective view of the game, I can't stand it.

J, nice list of 10 things that every broadcaster should do!! I've never seen one like that and I couldn't agree more. TBS broadcasters Chip Caray and Dick Stockton leave a lot to be desired. They get these gigs because of their names and then stumble their way through the games. Chip's "line drive hit out runners going" from the play -in game is a classic!! (I paraphrased). Stockton's mis-pronunciations of names are also priceless. If you don't know the players then why are you there?  I've come to expect the worst on national TV but still enjoy many of the broadcasters on ESPN radio  (Miller, Shulman, Phillips, Singleton, Campbell).

Schulman and Campbell are very good I think.  Also, I think Ron Darling gets it right, and adds something valuable considering he is a virtual newbie.  He actually noted how Pavano was pitching a dangerous ARod, just before the home run last night, and said it used to be you would never give him a fastball inside, but noted that with a hitter like Rodriguez you couldn't pitch him a more traditional way because he would send it over the right field baggie.  What happened when Pavano threw down and away?  Over the left field baggie.

Don't know if this is true, but I head that Chip Caray said that the "Yankees have used 4 pitchers, 3 in relief" in a broadcast.  It sounds like his style of broadcast, but if its true, it shows that he doesn't even think about what he's saying anymore.

Too comfortable with the job.
