Reply with quote | #1 | He is making the case that he is the greatest player ever with his performance this post season. In Rodriguez’s first seven games of the postseason, he is batting .407 with 5 homers and 11 runs batted in. What does he have to do now to earn the distinction? |

Reply with quote | #2 | We used to talk about when does this cease being "Jeter's" team. I feel that that moment is coming up fast. The question that I have (assuming that he continues to hit, steal, homer at anything close to his performance last night) is; what caused the change?
1 - Coming clean on steroids took the monkey off his back 2 - Kate Hudson 3 - Shortening his swing 4 - Girardi resting him late in the season

Reply with quote | #3 | In my opinion, it is all perception.
There was an article on last week that outlined the stats for A-rod and Reggie Jackson through their first 42 postseason games. A-rod has significantly better numbers. The pressure is just so much greater on A-rod that anything less than excellence is not enough. Sure he had a couple stinkers in the post-season but he had some good games as well. |

Reply with quote | #4 | He has always done well against the Twins, so the fact that they are ever-present has helped him. Its big though that he has repeated into the LCS, IMO. |

Reply with quote | #5 | A rod is not even close to the best player ever. He may be in the top 20 but that's about it!
1. he's a liar and cheat (he's probably taking designer drugs now) 2. he's had poor post seasons untill this year (even a blind squirrel finds an acorn) 3. his teammates don't respect him (untill this year's lovefest, just ask them, you can read about it) 4. his #'s in 2004,06 & postseason through 08 were pedestrian, not great.
Best player ever? No way. |

Reply with quote | #6 | Liar - ok. Though some may choose to view it as just the weird world that celebs live in.
Cheat? Bit rich when compared to the roster of Roid Sox. |

Kiwi, you missed on that shot. I couldn't care less about the Roid Sox. My team cheated in 1919 but we have been mostly clean since then. Our manager is crazy but so are many people, just in different ways. I admire good baseball players who don't cheat and are good to the fans. I'll take Derek Jeter over A Rod any time. |

Reply with quote | #8 | Fair call. Boston blindness due to living in a North Eastern world. Ozzie may be mad but he's brilliant - his pitching calls (or reluctance to make any decision) against the Astros were wonderous.
But it A-Rod's a cheat for steroids then so is a chunk of the league. I find it hard to make the case for guys that were using when MLB wasn't testing or even attempting to test. Swatting the ball away - can see the case there - though maybe thats just gamesmanship. |

Wags, doesn't AROID have to win something first??? Greatest ever is a huge reach....His stats are nice, 5 hrs 11 RBI's,,, but he still 3 RBI's behind Ryan Howard(14), I don't see AROID as the best player on that team |

Reply with quote | #10 | Well, RBI's are hard to use as a measuring stick because you have to have other guys get on base before you knock them in.
No disrespect to Howard, who has improved his 1st base playing, but ARod is not just one of the greatest hitters ever, but he is also a very very good defensive third baseman, especially considering it is not his natural position.

I take it all back. Its ARod's team in October. Its Jeter's in November (Matsui's MVP notwithstanding) |
